This elegant Iris-themed Matcha bowl (aka. "Chawan" in Japanese) has been hand-crafted by Keiho Watanabe at Keiho Kiln, known for its concoction of the traditional Ogata Kenzan style and unique innovative design such as vivid, iron-contained colour painting.

Iris, known as "Ayame" in Japanese, is a famous drawing pattern of traditional Kenzan school, one of the most significant schools of painting established Kenzan Ogata (1663 - 1743) in Japan. This traditional Iris drawing patterns are in a beautiful harmony with the elegant and unique shape of this Matcha Bowl which opens its rim widely towards the outside.

KEIHOU KILN

Watanabe Keihou was born in 1937, Hokkaido. After working as an apprentice under Unraku kiln, he started his own kiln in 1983. By combining traditional Kenzan school style with his original designs, Watanabe Keihou creates various ranges of pottery with his dynamic brush stroke, which is highly appreciated in the field.
