Tips for Tea Connoisseurs

Lakyrsiew First Flush AV2 comes from a small, family-run, certified organic tea garden located in the hills around Shillong, the capital of the state Meghalaya (meaning "home of the clouds" in Sanskrit) in India. Meghalaya is a northeastern region in India, known for its sublime natural beauty with misty valleys and dense forests.

Lakyrsiew Tea Garden is situated at an elevation of between 1000 and 1300m above the sea level. The garden has an ideal tea terroir to produce supreme quality, Darjeeling style black tea, as the garden benefits from its own clean, sweet, spring water and receives a good amount of rains during the monsoon season. The natural mists of the adjacent Lake Umiam provide good natural shades to elite Darjeeling cultivars grown in the garden while protecting the garden from drought during the dry season.

AV2 is one of approximately thirty Darjeeling clonals, known for their complexity and aromatic floral notes. Many of the renowned, elite Darjeeling producers cultivate AV2 clonal to produce finest Darjeeling and new white, oolong tea variants. Over the past decade, AV2 teas have won most awards in competitions. Critiques and judges often describe AV2 cultivars produce supreme quality, memorable and mind-blowing teas.

T78 is another highly fragrant Darjeeling cultivar known for its rich full-bodied peach and ginger-like spicy notes. ginger/peach notes. T78 is a rare find, as it is cultivated less than other elite Darjeeling cultivars. Around 2005, Darjeeling producers realized that the peak flavor period for this cultivar was very short lived, hence T78 was gradually replaced by other cultivars. These days, only very few gardens retain quality sections of this delicious leaf.
