Darjeeling First Flush Castleton China Special Loose Black Tea

Tips for Tea Connoisseurs

Castleton Tea Estate, perched in Darjeeling’s misty Kurseong South Valley, is one of the most celebrated tea gardens in Darjeeling that produces top quality Darjeeling black teas throughout the year. Castleton Tea Estate is mostly planted with Camellia sinensis var. sinensis (i.e. Chinese tea plant variety), which are grown between 1000 and 2300m above sea level. Such unique combination of topography and Chinese tea bushes significantly contributes to the distinctive muscatel flavour in Darjeeling teas from Castelton Tea Estate.

Our Castelton China Special FTGFOP1 is a classic example of Darjeeling First Flush with its typical fruity, floral and uplifting character. Green apple, grape skin and linden flower notes are set against a warm, baked bread and almond background and the distinctive almond flavour lingers long in the palate. In comparison to our other First Flush Darjeeling, Turzum Clonal Flowery SFTGFOP1, which is made from Clonal variety, Castelton China Special FTGFOP1, offers a liquor with more body, thicker mouthfeel as well as more astringency. The almond flavour is also more pronounced in Castelton China Special FTGFOP1 than Turzum Clonal Flowery SFTGFOP1.

While most Darjeeling black tea is sold as a blend under the generic name “Darjeeling”, the top quality Darjeeling teas are sourced directly from tea gardens and are not blended. Furthermore, the origin, along with their grade and sometimes additional information such as the main cultivar and batch number are indicated in the best Darjeeling black teas, like in our Darjeeling collection.

Naturally grown without pesticide and chemical fertiliser. Certified IMO Organic.

Black tea is known to be just as beneficial as green tea for our health and well-being. A recent study indicates several health benefits of black tea by demonstrating that flavonoids found in black tea boost the immune system to prevent flu and other viral infection and encourage the growth of healthy microorganism in the liver to boost energy metabolism and weight loss.
