Tips for Tea Connoisseurs

"Dancong", translated into "single shrub" or "single bush" in Chinese, refers to an individual tea plant cultivated from a variety of Shui Xian cultivar. As the sub-varietals of Shui Xian cultivars grown on the region have very different characteristics in terms of leaf and tree shape, teas made from different individual shrubs happened to develop very distinctive aroma and flavour profile from one to the other, which explains why the oolong teas produced in the region are called as "Dancong Oolong". However, as the amount of tea leaves that one tree can yield is very small, most dancong oolong teas nowadays are produced by using the tea leaves of trees of the same sub-variety of Shui-Xian cultivar.

White Leaf Dancong, also known as "Bai Ye Dancong" or "Ling Tou Dancong" in Chinese, is a highly sought-after Dancong oolong tea from Ling Tou Village, Rao Ping County in Guangdong Province, China. White Leaf Dancong Oolong Tea has got its name due to the distinctive appearance of its large, light yellow-green tea leaves which are covered with fine and downy hairs that shine under the moonlight.

Our White Leaf Moonlight Dan Cong, made from tender shoots of the early spring, has been masterfully crafted following the labour-intensive, traditional Dancong oolong tea processing method. The result is an exquisite Dancong oolong tea, which is orchestrated with pungent fruity (lychee, muscat, peach), floral (orange blossom) and delicate woody-toasty notes (rosewood, baked bread). The liquor is smooth and lively, with a great balance and structure. The intense muscat flavour in the finish is long on the palate while a hint of delicate astringency adds more complexity to the liquor.

As with all the teas, oolong tea also offers us health benefits to increase our sense of well-being. Several studies indicate that oolong tea is a rich source of antioxidant polyphenols and it may well be just as beneficial as green tea to promote weight loss and cardiovascular health by reducing high blood pressure and cholesterol.
