The depth of black tea. The preparation of matcha.
Dark Chocolate · Toffee · Malt · Honey · Roasted Hazelnut · Woody

Created by Tea Master Mr. Cho, The Wisdom Grind transforms his handcrafted Jiri, The Mountain of Wisdom into a fine, stone-milled Korean black tea powder.

Made from native Jaeraejong tea leaves harvested in the begining of May in Hadong, South Korea, it offers a full-bodied, mellow profile centred on dark chocolate, toffee and malt, followed by honey, roasted hazelnut and subtle woody depth.

Designed especially for hot and iced tea lattes, The Wisdom Grind offers a completely different powdered-tea experience from matcha or hojicha while remaining unmistakably black tea.

Tea Repertoire Recommendation

Choose The Wisdom Grind when you want a powdered tea with the depth and aromatic richness of handcrafted black tea rather than the vegetal umami of matcha or the roasted character of hojicha. Its full body and dark chocolate, malt and toffee profile make a hot or iced latte our preferred preparation.

Sensory Identity

Full-Bodied · Mellow · Chocolaty

Dark Chocolate · Toffee · Malt · Honey · Roasted Hazelnut · Woody

The Wisdom Grind opens with dark chocolate and malt before moving towards toffee and honey. Roasted hazelnut adds a rich nutty impression, while subtle woody notes bring depth through the finish.

Its full body gives the tea enough presence to remain expressive with milk, while low bitterness and moderate astringency maintain the recognisable structure of black tea.

Why We Selected The Wisdom Grind

Tea Repertoire Selection

One Handcrafted Black Tea, Reimagined

We selected The Wisdom Grind because it offers a genuinely different way to experience a black tea we already know in its traditional whole-leaf form.

Mr. Cho first crafts Jiri, The Mountain of Wisdom as black tea. Stone milling then gives the finished tea a new physical form that allows it to be whisked directly into water and paired particularly successfully with milk.

It is not designed to imitate matcha or hojicha. Its appeal comes from an entirely different sensory direction: black tea, dark chocolate, malt and toffee.

Our recommendation: choose The Wisdom Grind when you want a rich, tea-forward hot or iced latte with a natural black-tea character.

Origin & Craftsmanship

The Wisdom Grind begins as a handcrafted Korean black tea. Stone milling is the final transformation rather than the process that defines the tea itself.

01

Native Jaeraejong

The tea is made from Jaeraejong, Korea's native tea cultivar, cultivated in Hadong around Jiri Mountain.

02

Begining of may Harvest

Leaves selected for The Wisdom Grind come from the begining of may harvest, giving the finished tea the structure needed for its full-bodied black-tea expression.

03

Handcrafted Black Tea

Mr. Cho first crafts the leaves into the same finished black tea offered by Tea Repertoire as Jiri, The Mountain of Wisdom.

04

Stone-Milled

Only after the black tea is complete are the finished leaves stone-milled into a fine powder suitable for whisked preparation.

One Tea. Two Expressions.

Loose-Leaf Expression
Jiri, The Mountain of Wisdom is infused traditionally as whole-leaf Korean black tea.
Stone-Milled Expression
The Wisdom Grind takes the same finished black tea and transforms it into a whisked powder particularly suited to latte preparation.

Pure Preparation

StyleWater Only

Whisk thoroughly and enjoy without milk for the most direct expression of the tea's dark chocolate, malt and woody character.

Tea Repertoire Tip: whisk the powder with water first before adding milk. This helps disperse the tea evenly and keeps the black-tea character clear in the finished latte.

How Much Milk Should You Use?

The Wisdom Grind has the full body needed to remain expressive with milk. The amount of milk allows you to control how tea-forward or milk-forward the finished drink becomes.

More Tea-Forward

Approximately 150 ml Milk

Use around 150 ml when you want dark chocolate, malt and toffee to remain particularly pronounced.

Softer Latte

Up to 200 ml Milk

Increase towards 200 ml when you prefer a softer and more milk-forward expression.

We do not currently prescribe one specific milk type. Different milks change sweetness, body and flavour balance, so we recommend choosing according to the expression you prefer.

What Is Stone-Milled Black Tea?

Tea Repertoire Academy

Powdered Tea Does Not Automatically Mean Matcha

Matcha is a specific Japanese green tea produced according to its own cultivation and processing traditions.

The Wisdom Grind follows a fundamentally different route. Mr. Cho first crafts a finished Korean black tea. Only afterwards is that black tea stone-milled into powder.

Stone milling changes the physical form and preparation method, but not the classification of the tea. The Wisdom Grind remains black tea.

Which Powdered Tea Is Right for You?

Choose according to the flavour and preparation you want rather than treating all powdered teas as interchangeable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers about The Wisdom Grind, its origin, flavour and recommended preparation.

What is The Wisdom Grind?

The Wisdom Grind is a stone-milled Korean black tea produced by Tea Master Mr. Cho in Hadong from native Jaeraejong tea leaves harvested in may.

What does The Wisdom Grind taste like?

Its sensory profile centres on dark chocolate, toffee and malt, supported by honey, roasted hazelnut and woody notes. It is full-bodied and mellow, with low bitterness and moderate astringency.

Is The Wisdom Grind matcha?

No. Matcha is Japanese green tea. The Wisdom Grind is Korean black tea that has been stone-milled only after its black-tea production is complete.

Is The Wisdom Grind hojicha?

No. Hojicha is characterised by roasting. The Wisdom Grind is not roasted. Its roasted-hazelnut note describes a naturally perceived aroma rather than a production process.

Does The Wisdom Grind contain chocolate, caramel or added flavouring?

No. The Wisdom Grind contains 100% Korean black tea. Dark chocolate, toffee, honey and roasted hazelnut are natural sensory impressions of the tea, not added ingredients.

Does The Wisdom Grind contain added sugar?

No. There is no added sugar. The perceived honey and toffee character comes naturally from the tea's aromatic profile.

How do I prepare a Wisdom Grind Latte?

Whisk 2–2.5 g of The Wisdom Grind with 50–70 ml water at approximately 80°C, then add 150–200 ml milk. The same base preparation works for a hot or iced latte.

What is the difference between The Wisdom Grind and Jiri, The Mountain of Wisdom?

They are two expressions of the same handcrafted Korean black tea. Jiri, The Mountain of Wisdom is prepared as a traditional loose-leaf infusion, while The Wisdom Grind takes the finished tea and stone-mills it into powder for whisked preparation.
