Tips for Tea Connoisseurs
Our Lishan Formosa Jade Oolong Tea is made from hand-picked tender leaves of Qing Xin cultivar (aka. Green Heart Tea Cultivar), grown in the high elevation of 2300m in Li Shan (literally meaning, Pear Mountain), Taichung County, Taiwan, one of the most celebrated region for high mountain oolong teas. Li Shan is found in central Taiwan in Taichung County and it got its name, due to the abundant pear orchards existed for many years. Although there are still fruit orchards in the region, Li Shan is now renowned for its superb quality, high mountain oolong tea - the most expensive in Taiwan.
Tea gardens in Li Shan are situated between 1600m and 2600m above sea level in altitude. These are the highest tea plantations in Taiwan, hence, it is no wonder why Li Shan is known to produce the finest, superior quality, high mountain oolong tea, gaoshancha. High mountain naturally offers an ideal terroir for supreme quality oolong teas. As tea bushes grown in the high elevation are affected by the limited sun exposure and the cooler temperature in their habitat, the tea bush yields sweeter and tender leaves, as the leaves contain more amino acids but less catechin. Besides, tea bushes growing on rich black soil on former orchard lands enjoy the fertile, nutritious soil.
Carefully grown and hand-picked tea leaves, then painstakingly rolled 40-50 times and lightly oxidised by our Tea Master, Mr. Li, Lishan Formosa Jade Oolong offers a highly aromatic and sweet, refreshing, fruity, floral liquor. Li Shan oolong tea is known as the "King of Teas." and you will notice a unique, refreshing, pear and peach fragrance that is not commonly found in other high mountain oolongs from Taiwan.
Thanks to the high elevation of the tea plantation, tea plants grow very slowly in Mr. Li's tea garden and his tea production is limited in quantities. Try the rare, exquisite, authentic gem of Taiwanese high mountain oolong - our Li Shan Formosa Jade. It will lead your palate to another level of oolong tea appreciation.
As with all the teas, oolong tea also offers us health benefits to increase our sense of well-being. Several studies indicate that oolong tea is a rich source of antioxidant polyphenols and it may well be just as beneficial as green tea to promote weight loss and cardiovascular health by reducing high blood pressure and cholesterol.
