Ivory Tokoname Kyusu Teapot I

Tea Repertoire

Types de produits: FINE JAPANESE POTTERY

Meet our Japanese Tokoname Ceramic Kyusu Teapot I in Ivory, handcrafted by artisan Tofuko Fujita in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture—the historic heart of kyusu production. Born in 1975 in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Mr. Fujita trained under master Toshio Araki at the Tokoname City Ceramic Art Research Institute and has since dedicated his career to ceramic craftsmanship and teaching at the Higashiura Town Folk Museum and the Tokoname City Ceramics Research Institute. His works are also exhibited at the Aichi Prefecture Ceramic Museum.

Tokoname ware, with a history spanning over 1,000 years, is one of Japan’s six ancient kilns. Each kyusu is meticulously handmade, from shaping the body, lid, spout, tea strainer, and handle to the final firing. The integrated fine-mesh ceramic strainer contains no metal, ensuring the purest aroma and flavour of the tea. With continued use, the teapot develops a deeper colour and natural luster, enhancing its beauty over time. Beneath the handle, you will find the engraved mark of the potter.

Please note: due to the natural iron content of Tokoname clay, the body colour is not pure white but carries a soft, earthy warmth.
