This sublime Japanese spring season-themed Matcha bowl (aka. "Chawan" in Japanese) has been hand-crafted by a renowned, Kyo-Yaki style (Kyoto Style Pottery) Japanese ceramic artist, Kohgiku Yamaoka.

With the gentle and elegant motif of golden,  white and pink sakura (cherry blossoms), this masterfully hand-crafted Matcha bowl expresses the tender atmosphere of the beautiful spring season in Japan. Gentle orange shaded patches inside the bowl are called GOHONDE, a traditional Japanese ceramic technique that adds warmth to the atmosphere of the work.

KOHGIKU YAMAOKA

Kohgiku Yamaoka was born in 1942. He worked under Zenjiroh Ueyama for 10 years, and then opened his own kiln in 1969. He excels at bright and vivid works. Ninsei Nonomura was an artist who developed Kyo-Yaki style in the early 17th century. He was best known for his definitive pottery wheel technique and printing on Kyo-Yaki. Kenzan Ogata (1663-1743) was one of the first to paint four seasons flowers on pottery in Japan.
