Tips for Tea Connoisseurs
Lakyrsiew First Flush Bannockburn 157 comes from a small, family-run, tea garden located in the hills around Shillong, the capital of the state Meghalaya (meaning "home of the clouds" in Sanskrit) in India. Meghalaya is a northeastern region in India, known for its sublime natural beauty with misty valleys and dense forests.
Lakyrsiew Tea Garden is situated at an elevation of between 1000 and 1300m above the sea level. The garden has an ideal tea terroir to produce supreme quality, Darjeeling style black tea, as the garden benefits from its own clean, sweet, spring water and receives a good amount of rains during the monsoon season. The natural mists of the adjacent Lake Umiam provide good natural shades to elite Darjeeling cultivars grown in the garden while protecting the garden from drought during the dry season.
Bannockburn 157 is one of most successful cultivars developed by Tocklai Tea Research Institute, a research wing of the tea board of India. Along with AV2 clonal cultivar, Bannockburn 157 is considered as an elite cultivar that produces the finest, highly aromatic darjeeling tea, as it is known to contain natural, aromatic, chemical compounds such as Linalool oxide II, linalool, methyl salicylate, geraniol and 2- phenyl ethanol, which are the determining components for the top quality of Darjeeling orthodox black tea. High concentrations of these natural aromatic components produce supreme muscatel, floral flavour.
Naturally grown without pesticide and chemical fertiliser.
Black tea is known to be just as beneficial as green tea for our health and well-being. A recent study indicates several health benefits of black tea by demonstrating that flavonoids found in black tea boost the immune system to prevent flu and other viral infection and encourage the growth of healthy microorganism in the liver to boost energy metabolism and weight loss.
