Tips for Tea Connoisseurs

Woojeon is a really delicate and gentle, first flush, spring green tea from South Korea. Korean green tea is graded according to the date of harvest and the maturity of buds and leaves: Woojeon/Ujeon (First Pluck), Sejak (Second Pluck), Joongjak/Jungjak (Third Pluck) and Daejak (Fourth Pluck). Each grade comes up with their unique flavour and Woojeon, literally meaning, "Before Rain", is only made from one tender bud and two newly opened hand-picked leaves of mid April and highly praised for its delicate, subtle nutty sweetness.

Our Woojeon BOP is made from tea leaves naturally grown in beautiful Boseong, one of the most scenic tea plantations in South Korea, together with other two well known tea producing regions such as Hadong and Jeju Island.

Unlike tea fields in Jeju Island, which were developed in the 1970s, Boseong has been a traditional, green tea producing region in the past in Korea, together with Hadong. There are historical records from Joseon dynasty (1392 - 1910) showing which towns and provinces were subjected to tea taxation and tea offerings to the government. During the Japanese colonial period (1910 - 1945), Japanese colonizers saw a potential to develop Boseong tea field to grow more tea for export, which consequently influenced the green tea production method and the cultivars currently grown in Boseong tea plantations.

Woojeon BOP?

BOP, meaning Broken Orange Pekoe, according to the tea grading system, is not often used to describe Korean green tea. However, we discovered an organic tea garden in Boseong that sorts broken, steamed, Woojeon leaves to offer the prestigious first flush Woojeon at a more affordable price.

If you're a Korean tea connoisseur, you would know that Woojeon refers to the first flush, highest quality Korean green tea and real quality Woojeon demands a high price tag.

Try this Woojeon BOP, made from the first flush, entirely, hand-picked leaves. Although it's broken grade, you'll see the brewed tea leaves contain lots of buds! When brewed, Woojeon BOP offers a wonderfully gentle, sweet, umami liquor filled with creamy, steamed vegetable notes. Silky, creamy mouthfeel coats your tongue with delicious gentle vegetal sweetness - a real treat!

An authentic, rare Woojeon green tea from scenic Boseong that will bring gentle spring breeze to your tea moment. As a rich source of vitamin C, catechin and amino acid, Woojeon BOP will not only soothe your mind, but will also nourish your body.
